French Onion soup 9/10
Sautee for 15-20 minutes:
    2 large yellow onions, sliced thinly
    1/4 c chicken fat
    1.5 tsp salt
    1 tbsp pepper
    3 c chicken broth

Source:  Originally got the idea from the Rival Crock Pot direction book but have changed significantly.

Notes:  Using chicken fat instead of butter helps but butter will work.  You can play with the spices to get a different taste.  Doesn't taste the same if you freeze it.  Ok but not great.
